A Concert in Solidarity with Our Sisters and Brothers on the Inside

Songs in the Key of Free presents a concert of music by twenty-five incarcerated men from the State Correctional Institution at Graterford, located in Montgomery County, PA. The program consists of songs composed in a series of ongoing workshops inside the maximum-security prison. A live band of Philadelphia-area musicians including Alexa Gold, the Anna Crusis Choir, and TwizzMatic performs the songs while multimedia footage from inside Graterford connects the audience to the songwriters. These performances, photos, videos, and audio interviews reveal the creativity and humanity that thrives behind bars.

Multimedia showcase concert:
Friday, June 16, 7:30–9:30 p.m.
Painted Bride Art Center, 230 Vine Street
With the Curtis Institute of Music and Mural Arts Philadelphia

This multimedia concert includes audio, video and photographs from inside SCI-Graterford, and a house band playing live. Twenty-five inside participants, many of them lifelong musicians and performers, have written and performed a collection of songs, all of which address mass incarceration. Not only are these men stellar musicians, including horn players, conga players, and rappers, they’re also talented songwriters. Hear the world premieres of these songs alongside audio interviews with the men about their earliest memories of music and video footage of our collaborations.  Expect to be connected to these remarkable men in a way you’ve never experienced before.
